Formula 4 is classic 70’s & 80’s FM radio hits with a heavy dose of progressive rock... Rush, Yes, Genesis, ELP, Kansas, Asia… plus Journey, U2, The Police, Boston, Foreigner, Zeppelin, The Doors, The Baby’s, Robert Palmer, Simple Minds, INXS, and more. It’s a unique mix of well-known pop, dance, and concert atmosphere music.
Formula 4 is the musical chemistry of 4 individuals with a knack for their craft. The band’s lead vocalist, Brad Johnson, has extraordinary range, tone, & dynamics that emulates the many demanding & epic songs that the band covers. The band is also unique in its ability to cover such a wide swatch of sonic territory with a compact trio/front-man format via the multi-instrumental role of Jim Golen on guitar, keyboards, & midi-foot-controller. Drummer Marty Zlocki also contributes additional sonic content with a variety of electronic percussion, and bassist Mark Best covers the low end and more using a plethora of techniques & sounds, including a great synth-bass emulation. Plus there’s plenty of all-around showmanship to accent the band’s chops, and they know how to have fun with the music and their audience for a truly entertaining live experience.
The songs and performance of Formula 4 harkens back to a golden age of creative music and live artistry that has seemingly been lost to time and trends, but that many people are eager to experience again. Formula 4 is a unique and dynamic band that will undoubtedly entertain and leave you wanting more.

Being that this new incarnation of F4 (w/ lead vocalist Brad Johnson) is just coming out of the gate, there is no live gig footage to share as of yet, so we thought we’d share the next best thing. Here are some song samples from a recent rehearsal session (6 songs / 5 minute run time).

The first video demonstrates our unique & diverse selection of music, but this second installment very much represents “thee” main reason the four of us got together...to play some classic prog-rock. And so here are a few select slices of us doing bona fide prog hits by Yes, ELP, & Rush. (running time 7:37).
